Wow, I agree that we live in a microwave, make me happy all the time society, where people just want what feels good to them... and are not willing to work hard at relationships.

Where I don't see your point is why you question that the author is speaking their truth. We often can have a myriad of reasons why we stay in unions that are not good for us, but feeling that after thirty two years this person did not try hard enough is flawed logic. I know, because I too was in a lengthy marriage that I gave my all to. It was not all bad, but when it was bad, it was bad! I loved this person and did all that I knew to make it work.

Eventually, I realized that it just was not a healthy relationship for either of us. Sometimes no matter how much you want that solidly grounded, loving relationship it just doesn't happen. That's when you have to let go and breathe!
