I worked as a cocktail (bar service) waitress, as they were called back then in the eighties. It was an exhausting, often fraught with men who thought buying drinks gave them permission to be inappropriate with you, and for a ridiculously low wage. My experiences taught me to always tip generously, and to be gracious with the waitstaff. The only real solution to this issue is to raise the pay that these workers receive to a decent livable wage.
