I loved that the entire movie was filmed in black and white. It gave the movie a nostalgic feel. The soundtrack was excellent! The jazzy undertones fit the scenarios quite well! Their acting was very good, and the characters played off of each well, despite some previous controversy about the age differences of the actors.

The issue that I had with it was that the whole dialogue revolved around one single incident, so I felt like I didn't get to know the people in the story well. Was this a one time issue of someone being shockingly non aware of their partners needs, or did this happen frequently? If it was a continual thing I could have better understood Marie's disappointment. It seemed like more of a let's see who can hurt the other one the most battle. The unkindness displayed was profound, but I guess that was intentional. Definitely not a relationship goals situation. I think the movie suggested they were going to stay together, but I think in real life their relationship would be hard pressed to succeed. I saw two good people who were not good for each other.

Oh, and I would be remiss not mentioning the infamous mac and cheese scene. This proved just how well they are at acting to me. Marie came home and immediately started making a stovetop version of this dish. (I will have to temporarily take away their black cards ,not the American Express, for this). Malcolm chowed down like it was the best thing he had ever eaten. This would have been a legitimate grounds for separation in most of our households. But this showed me that they really cared for each other. Her willingness to cook for him before she did anything else, and him eating it without complaint. All in all it was a very entertaining movie.
