I agree with your thoughts on cultural appropriation. We have such a long way to go with people of color receiving the equality that they deserve, but a hairstyle in my opinion these days, is just fashion. The same way that many black women wear weaves, wigs, and other accoutrements that would be seen as "white looking," it should be okay for people of non color to wear braids, locks, or whatever they choose. As long as they are not trying to mock, or use it as a tool for degradation it is no harm, no foul with me. The real issue for me is when they try to say that it was, and is native to their culture; i.e." Bo Derek braids." That is appropriation. It did not originate with you, you are borrowing from a culture. Stop trying to claim ownership of everything that you feel the need to possess, when it does not belong to you.
