Francisco, you're a great writer and I have appreciated many of your articles. I can't say that I agree with this one. We are not all equal in the eyes of man, GOD certainly, but not man. I read your disclaimer after I wrote this reply, but my argument still stands. No human is truly free to live a good life until all humans are free to live a good life. Capitalism, I feel is the bane of most economic systems existences. I do agree with one of the prior comments that it is a manmade construct indeed, one that separates the rich from the poor and the haves from the have-nots. It was brought into existence as a tool to make the pockets of those who are so fortunate as to achieve its bounties much heavier than most. There have been people who are more learned than me who have expressed these sentiments. Capitalism will only be an avenue for good when it allows EVERYONE to be on equal footing. When I googled the definition, the last line stood out to me profoundly. "The essential feature of capitalism is the motive to make profit." I have no real issue with profit making until it does not allow all to enjoy a reasonable ability to sustain themselves. Profit over people is what capitalism imbodies. Capitalism has a tendency to breed greed and therefore it is does not offer the opportunity for equal sharing in the wealth. I would not hold my breath waiting for a capitalistic society to decide that all freedoms should be given to all people and that everyone should enjoy a viable life and livelihood. I'm sure that it feels pretty good sitting on that lofty mountain with all of its gold and silver and enjoying the fruits that having more than enough brings. There are so many other reasons that true capitalism doesn't work, it's a tale as old as time, but I've taken up enough space with this comment. Thanks.
